One in ten Irish adults have NEVER had an eye examination.

Most of the Irish population is elligable for free sight tests. Children in primary school receive free eye care through their local health board. If your fulltime employed you can claim on your PRSI. All Medical card holders recieve free eyecare. It is only the minority who can not claim on any benefit – but even then Nolke Opticians charges €35 for a sight test and it’s only €30 for students.

Everyone should have an eye examination once every two years unless advised otherwise by their optometrist. Nolke Opticians recommends children aged under 9 and people aged 70 and over have annual eye examinations.

It’s estimated that 1 in 5 children has an undetected problem with their vision.

A quarter of over 60 year olds say the quality of their vision affects their daily routine.
