Nolke Opticians is a family owned optometric practice situated next door to the Uluru Bar and restaurant on the Cove roundabout on the Dunmore Rd Waterford.

Kjell Nolke

Kjell Nölke, Optometrist owner qualified from DIT in 1993. Kjell worked for two years in his home town of Killarney with one of the leading independent practices in Ireland Pat O Donoghue Opticians. With itchy feet Kjell left for London in 1995 where he worked in St Thomas’s and St Peters hospitals gaining extensive experience in all aspects of hospital optometry including low vision and complex contact lens fitting. At the same time Kjell gained valuable experience working in the prestigious Theodore Hamblin Opticians in Wigmore street London where he gained invaluable experience in retail and customer service excellence. It was in London that he met his wife Yvonne Collins, a specialist paediatric nurse working in Great Ormond Street Hospital. Kjell and Yvonne then travelled and worked in their respective professions in Australia and New Zealand before returning to Southampton Southern England. Kjell worked in both Specsavers Eastley as well as the long established Martin Hall Opticians where Kjell further honed his retail and clinical skills. In 2004, following the birth of their 2nd child, Kjell and Yvonne were delighted to return to Ireland and set up their first practice in Waterford.

We have progressed from retinal cameras to ultra modern OCT retinal scanning ensuring our patients receive the latest technology advances. Since opening in 2004 the practice has grown to include many new services including

• Low vision service including optical, magnifiers, electronic CCTV and the latest Orcam readers. Kjell worked with NCBI Waterford from 2006 – 2014.
• Specialist paediatric spectacle fitting.
